WordPress.org (not to be confused with WordPress.com) is an open-source, free to use content management system. It powers over 35% of the Internet, and is an incredibly powerful and versatile web development tool!
I want to walk your through why, of all the ways to build a website, I decided to build my business around WordPress.org. It has helped me make beautiful, functional websites for clients, time and time again. If I could tell the whole world to use WordPress.org, I would!
Incredibly Versatile
All web builders have their strengths – Squarespace makes customer-side commerce really seamless, WordPress.com makes hosting a simple blog easy-peasy, and Webflow provides a visual web builder with developer tools. However, with each of these builders, designers have little to no control over how the tools work for us. With WordPress.org, I can control nearly every aspect of a web project and find nearly any tool I need in the form of plugins.
Some plugins include the popular WooCommerce for building powerful online shops, The Events Calendar for robust events calendars, and free appointment scheduling from Simply Schedule that are highly customizable. These are just a few of the tools I use to build sites for clients!
Functional and Beautiful
Part of my design process is creating websites that are user friendly and walk your audience from landing page to buying your product or service. A pretty webpage is only as good as the sales it makes, right? Sales keep you in business and help you keep doing what you love! WordPress.org allows me to build sites that look great on all screens, and are optimized to lead people who land on your page to where you want them to go.
On top of this, WordPress.org has had nearly two decades to flesh out their software – which means that their websites are just as functional as they are pretty.
Secure
While your site is only as safe as the webhost you choose, WordPress.org is as secure as they come. Again, they have been operating and developing their software for nearly two decades. In all this time, they have continually hardened their core software, allowing them to mitigate the most common security threats to websites.
Additionally… there are many plugins that allow additional security measures, depending on the kind of website you have! Protecting information and preventing spam is easier with WordPress.org, and I can give my clients peace of mind.
Everybody’s Favorite: SEO Friendly!
WordPress.org sites make up at least one third of the world wide web, which is staggering when you think about how many web builders are out there. When Google is indexing (or, cataloging) websites, a large part of making a website show up in a search is how user friendly the site is. In other words, if you have a well-designed site, you will become better friends with Google. Keywords also come into play, but WordPress does a lot of the heavy lifting for you.
Cost-Effective
Websites used to cost tens of thousands of dollars – and for good reason. Web developers had to custom code every piece of a website, build out systems and software from scratch, and any time a business wanted to make a change on their site… well, only the developer could do that. WordPress has allowed developers to lower their costs and time input, making web design and development more affordable for everyone. WordPress is also open-source, meaning it is free to use to building sites.
